About us

Ai Ki Do : The Way of Harmony

We practice Ki Aikido,  that is Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido or Aikido with Mind and Body Unified as developed by Koichi Tohei Sensei.

The Ki No Kenkyukai Internationale was established by Kenjiro Yoshigasaki Sensei to further advance the concepts and teachings of Koichi Tohei Sensei. The organisation has 186 dojos (clubs) in 24 countries, predominately in Europe but also in Africa and South America.

The two Highland Ki Society clubs are members of the Ki No Kenkyukai Musubi, the successor association to the Ki no Kenkyukai Internationale, and of the UK Governing body for Aikido, the British Aikido Board.

What We Do

 Exercises for Health

Classes generally start with two kinds of exercises, exercises for health, which include breathing, flexing and stretching and exercises for Aikido which help the development of a unification of our mind and body and the body movements and body mechanics we use in the Aikido techniques.

We also practice breathing and meditation techniques.

 Aikido and Self Defence

Our Aikido practice begins with basic theory to understand the mechanics of the various techniques and then develops to allow us to use our minds and bodies in harmony.

One of the key concepts developed by Koichi Tohei Sensei is that ‘mind moves body’, and we use this to refine our own movements and to allow us to move our partners with minimal effort.
